OK, you have two options now.

    1. If you want, whatever data you want to recover or you can recover in their original Folder Structure with original filenames then buy GetDataBack simple (USD80) or Active@ File Recovery (with the discount code costs USD25) See GSearch's post #73 here 2tb internal drive unallocated

    2. Try PhotoRec which is free. Read all about PhtoRec in the Testdisk website including the documentation and forum posts. "PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged(as in your case) or reformatted." What you will recover will be individual files without their original file names. You have to rename the files and rebuild the folder structure if you so desire..

As far as PhotoRec is concerned apart from the documentation in TestDisk website, you can also read my writeup here. Guide to using PhotoRec recovery software. ( You will only read the topic Recovery in it .Skip the earlier Preparation part. Do not format your drive as I did for that experiment to show that even after formatting one can recover the data. When you format, the previous MFT is gone. Even without MFT Photorec can recover the files)

You will find photorec_win.exe in the TestDisk folder. Plugin another external drive with sufficient capacity to copy the files before you start PhotoRec..Do it only when you are ready with it. Minimal run of your faulty drive.( Our troubleshooting/ fact-finding/recovery effort has already increased the pending sector count by 16)

On how to copy: Read my post#28 Copying files listed by TestDisk during Recovery here My external hard drive suddenly became unllocated: (This applies to PhotoRec also) Unlike TestDisk, PhotoRec is absolutely safe and you can make as many mistakes as you can without destroying data. So I won't ask you not to jump my instructions :).

02 June to 08 June I won't be seen here. Away to Bali, Indonesia. ( Ha, what holiday, me and my wife will only be add-ons to the family vacation with one part, more precisely half the crowd (4) arriving from USA on 01 June). So you are on your own with my above guide. Tomorrow and day after I may just peep in. No action unless I am inexplicably drawn into..:)

I will look into Testdisk as the option before i look at the GetDataBack later. Thanks for the advice and instructions. I will post once i have recovered the files or at least some of them. That will take some time before i post anything. I believe that you have guided me enough so i can navigate the rest of the way. Thanks so much. Have a very well deserved vacation with your family. Never been to Bali myself. Heard it's a super nice place. :)
