Windows Safely Remove does not list open drives

Windows Safely Remove does not list open drives
    - 2 USB thumb drives
    - 1 USB external HDD
    - connected to my Lenovo e540 laptop via a mains powered USB3 hub

I have to use Windows Explorer -> Context Menu -> Eject ...
    - only then does WSR show "Safe To Remove <drive name>"

Both USB Thumb drives can be Ejected via WinExp -> Eject
The external HDD appears in WinExp but there is no "Eject" item on Context Menu ?

What can I do to repair this problem ? thank you :)

Try disconnecting the USB hub, then connect one of the USB thumb drives direct to the PC and see if that shows properly!

    Hi mitchell65

With the hub disconnected and drives connected directly to usb ports, still no popup list in Windows Safely Remove on sys.tray
I have to eject thumb drives through Windows Explorer
The external HDD does not even "earn" an "Eject" opportunity.
    - I have to shut down and pull the HDD cable, then reboot

My laptop is trying to recover a system partition, looks like about a 5 hour full-scan.
It's 9:15 pm here way past my bedtime (comes with being a Jurassic leftover)

I will report back here in about 12 hours (9am our time)

Thank you for your support :)

With one USB drive connected, open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons and see if there is a Windows Explorer (Safely remove hardware ...) and if it is set to show icon and notifications.
