After fresh install, only power button wakes laptop from sleep

I have an HP Compaq 6730b laptop that I just installed an SSD in. I put Windows 7 (Pro 64) on a flash drive and reinstalled it fresh. After booting up to my new desktop, I discovered that after my laptop goes to sleep, I cannot wake it up with the keyboard, mouse, or by opening the lid. Only pressing the power button wakes it up. I used to be able to do this on my old installation.

I've tried installing all updates, all drivers from HP's website are installed and updated, and the current power plan does not have hybrid sleep enabled (supposedly this was causing problems). Neither my keyboard nor my mouse have the Power Management tab in device manager. They are both recognized as PS/2 devices rather than USB devices, and they are grouped under an Intel ICH9M LPC Interface device in device manager, rather than a USB hub.

Can anyone figure out why waking from sleep with my keyboard and mouse is no longer possible after a reinstall?

I can see that you have some experience. Just to be sure:
    - On device manager, is there any yellow alert mark?
    - On power settings, does it turn off USB on sleep?

Everything is ok in Device Manager, no yellow alert marks. Are you referring to the USB selective suspend setting? It was enabled just now (and I believe it was on the old system too), so I disabled it and rebooted. Unfortunately, I still can't wake my laptop with any of the keyboard buttons or trackpad buttons.

Something at the back of my mind makes me think that the root issue is bigger than a device-by-device setting, or limited to a specific class of devices. This issue apparently affects USB and PS/2 devices, so I wonder what may be controlling their power management?

@ tgp1994. Restart your laptop & get into the BIOS & look for keyboard & mouse settings that allow waking from sleep. Enable these & make sure you Save the setting changes & see if that fixes your problem.

The closest thing I can find is "Wake from USB", which has been enabled. Besides, I'm not sure how a windows reinstall would affect BIOS settings?

I have tried updating my BIOS to the latest offered, and that hasn't fixed the issue unfortunately.

Have you had a look at Advanced Power Settings. Open Control Panel, Select Power Options, then select Change Plan Settings, then Change Advanced Power Settings. Look through all the options that can be changed & see if that helps you. Don't forget to press the Apply button to save changes.

Yeah, I've been through there several times. I tried disabling the selective suspend, no dice... I can't remember, but I think there was one other setting... Hybrid sleep maybe? That one's off to. What really stumps me is that I have my desktop in high performance mode a la power settings, and I can sleep it and resume it just fine with my USB keyboard. Yet this laptop, freshly installed, and with an internal keyboard recognized as PS/2 can't? I'm getting the feeling my princess is in another castle, if you know what I mean.

@tgp1994. You could try uninstalling the keyboard in Device Manager, then reboot the computer & it should then be reinstalled by Windows. See if that helps.

I don't suppose you are using a hub to connect the mouse & keyboard to the computer, as hubs will not usually work for Waking the computer.

I also run an SSD in my computer & it is set for High Performance, in Power Options, & the mouse & keyboard will wake the computer, but they are both USB devices.

I should have mentioned in the OP, but I did try uninstalling the keyboard driver as well. When I rebooted, Windows reinstalled it as a generic keyboard rather than the enhanced driver supporting my function buttons. Unfortunately that still didn't fix the sleep issues, and my function keys were broken too! :P Even trying to force Windows to check for a better driver wouldn't make it detect the specialized driver, so I reinstalled the quick launch button software and I think that put it back. So I'm still at square one.

No hubs or anything fancy here. This is just the built-in keyboard for the laptop, and the trackpad as well which isn't working. Both are recognized as PS/2 devices.

Thank you for the help, please keep the suggestions coming!
