USB3.0 port doesn't recognise wifi adapter

I am using a Netgear A6210 WiFi adapter to connect my desktop to the wifi router in another room. It works in USB2.0 ports, although a pop-up nags me (every time I start Windows 7) that it would be faster on USB3.0. When I plug it into a USB3.0 port, nothing happens.

I have a Renesas Electronics USB3.0 Host Controller and Root Hub. Other devices work fine when connected to the ports, but the Netgear adapter just doesn't seem to trigger the OnConnect event. Is there anything I can do to make the USB3.0 ports see the adapter?

All my drivers are current (although the Renesas ones are dated 2012).

Im somewhat confused according to your specs your motherboard is a gigabyte EP45-DS3
according to the specs it does not have USB3 ports
The Intel Chipset its using does not support them, same as the lappy im writing this on
it doesnt support SATA III either, you'll only get 3GB(SATAII) writes not 6GB

Anyway back to it not working - possibly a Bios setting for legacy support.

Open device manager and see if there is a yellow alert on any device driver.

How fast is your internet connection? Did you test it under USB 2.0?
I'm asking because USB 2.0 connection can be faster than your internet connection, so if it is on a USB 2.0 or 3.0 won't make any difference.

I added a card with the 2x USB3.0 ports. Maybe I need a modern motherboard.

My external USB3.0 drives work fine, but I do I like your thinking: I should try some other non-storage devices.

Yes, it is a retrofit USB3.0 card and an old motherboard. Maybe I need all new tech. (I'd like to set up my own MIDI recording studio one day, too!)

I suspect the USB 3.0 hardware you have is the problem.

Currently 35 Mbps @ 2 AM. I have a cable modem and WiFI connection. (The hybrid optical/copper system we've spent billions on over the past decade may get to my building someday, but I don't know if the connection will be any faster because the providers are pathetic ****s.)

- As your internet is 35 Mbps, it won't make any difference if the device is connected to a USB 2.0 or 3.0.
- As you don't have any alerts on device manager, all drivers are installed.
- USB 2.0 has 4 contacts on one side (-, D+, D-, +), and USB 3.x has USB 2.0 contacts in one side and 5 contacts in the other side.

- If you use a USB 3.x device on a USB 2.0 port or a USB 2.0 device on a USB 3.x port it will work as USB 2.0.

It may be that your USB 3.0 device or port is defective and it work as a USB 2.0
To find out, try the device on another USB 3.0 port to see if it works as 3.0 and try another USB 3.0 device on the USB 3.0 port.
