Seagate Expansion drive crashes Windows Explorer

    Hi there,

I've just got a brand new Seagate Expansion 1TB drive, have connected it fine and it shows up in Windows Explorer, no problems there.
However, when I try to copy, move, drag and drop any file at all, Explorer crashes and restarts. As I say, it's brand new, this is the very first time I'm using it, and I've tried restarting, rebooting in safe mode, everything I can think of but the problem persists.

Any help would be much appreciated as the laptop I'm using is on its last legs and I would love to get all my files off before it finally dies.

    Thanks.

    Welcome to the Forum.

I suppose it's a USB drive as you have a laptop.

Right click on My Computer - Manage - Disk manager
Delete all partitions on the expansion disk - create new - format as NTFS - assign a drive letter to it.

    Do a system file check
Open a CMD window and type
    sfc /scannow

Thanks for your help, unfortunately it didn't work and Explorer is still crashing.
I just tried the drive with my new laptop and it works absolutely fine so it's clearly a problem with this old one, but I am no expert so would have no idea what to do next! I really don't want to lose all my files, especially my music.

Fist thing to do is to backup your files.
Connect both computers to the router and copy your data to the new laptop.
Did you do the system file check?
