USB HDD Not Recognized by Win7 64

I have read some of the problems related to this issue however mine is somewhat different.

I have a Lenovo F309 1TB USB drive that works perfectly on my three other Win7 64 machines. On this one however (Win7 64 Ultimate) although it appears in Disk Management and Device Manager it is impossible to allocate a drive letter to it ("... disk management console view is not up to date..."). To complicate matters, an older Samsung 1TB USB HDD works perfectly on this machine.

    I run as administrator
I have tried several HDD partition packages - all fail to allocate a drive letter/mount
The drivers are up to date per driver updater packages and Windows
I have uninstalled/reinstalled both USB ports and the USB HDD in Device Manager
I have tried all the ports (HP EliteBook 8470p)
I have formatted/reinstalled the partition twice
    Windows is up to date
Changing from Logical to Primary also fails
'Partition Find and Mount' registers the drive but write protects the content
Device Manager is clear across the board

I am finally out of ideas so any suggestions are welcome. I was inclined to blame the machine but it runs the other HDD. It doesn't appear to be the HDD as it operates perfectly on three other machines.

    Regards,

    Martin

    per Disk Management

    'Change Drive Letters and Path':

    - 'The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management Console View is not up to date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists, close the Disk Management Console then restart Disk Management or restart the computer.'

With both the restarts, the same error occurs. Similarly, with both EaseUS ('Mounting Volume Failed') and Paragon (Mount/Unmount requires restart) partition tools, a similar error.

Thanks for the assistance. I uninstalled all the USB drivers and lost the one HDD that did work and the mouse so had to go back to a previous restore point. Eventually, Driver Talent reported an abnormal Composite USB Device which I repaired in an effort to recover my working USB HDD and by some miracle after leaving it overnight 'Repairing', the Lenovo HDD appeared.

OK, fine. Your problem seems to be out of the ordinary and on hindsight, I presume that we should have perhaps asked for the Device Manager screenshot which could have shed more info on the nature of the problem. Glad that you could use Driver Talent to repair the drivers and recover the drive/s after a run-around.. This of course a new bit of information. This is the first time I am hearing the name Driver Talent. Thanks for sharing the info that should help other people with similar problems. Well done . ( You may mark the thread as solved.)
