Print only in single user account.

    Intel i7, Windows 7, HP 6000 printer, Word 2007, Works 4.5a.
I have three user accounts but can only print on the administrative account in which I installed the printer. I installed it as shown below but it still will not print in the other two user accounts. I wish to have my grandchildren use this printer from the guest account.

    Devices and Printers
    Printer properties
    Sharing tab
    Sharing this printer is checked
    Security tab
    Permissions for everyone
    Print allow is checked.

In addition to Word 2007 I installed a Win95 copy of works and it will only print in the one account also so I am sure it is a Windows 7 software problem.
    any ideas?

Did you shut down and boot up again when you gave your kids account permission?

I do not remember if I did at the time but I have more than a dozen times since and it does not print in the other user accounts.
I just checked it again to be sure and it will not print in the other accounts.

Just a thought, since I have not encountered this before. Just thinking out loud now, Does a quest account in Win 7 have print priviledges? Why not try giving them their own account, not password protected. I am sure that they can print. If it is not a Admin account, there is very little damage they can do. They can make changes that affect only their account, and not the system.

I have four accounts, two administrative accounts and two standard accounts and it will only print in the account that I installed it. Thanks for the thought though.

Try installing from the other accounts.

rfhar, if that doesn't solve it, can you post a picture of your printer properties?

    richc46;
I tried to install Works from the guest user account but the computer remembered that the program was installed so quit.
Next I tried to print from Word from the new administrative user account I installed and it surprised me and printed the page. So I opened a new standard user account with no password and it also prints from that new account. But; I can not print from the guest account or the original user account that came with the computer. Does it make sense that it will only print from accounts established after the program was installed?

    BTW, thanks for your patience.

I have never used a guest account, but I do know it has very limited capabilities. I think it is safe to assume that it cannot be used to print. The purpose is not so much for a family member, who will use it continually, but someone who just needs it to surf the net, get email etc, then leave.

I think that it is just academic, if the account created prior to installation can or cannot work. If all future accounts work, just delete the unsatisfactory account and forget about it. But I did read that first account is just to get started and you are suppose to create your accounts after installation.

Finally, I am glad to help.

I had had the same problem.
First be sure to have installed the last driver package from HP, no matter if at this time you still have the same problem.
Now turn off your printer and unplug your USB cable.
Then remove the printer through Start Menu à Printer and Devices (not sure if that’s the name in English, my system is in Spanish)à right click in printer and select remove device. (Note: don’t use HP uninstall option at the control panel; this will remove all the software, drivers and printer. We want to remove the printer only)
Be sure to have removed the printer, try to open the HP Solution Center, if it says that there’s no printer installed and that you need to run the add device option, it’s OK, don’t plug your printer or run the add device option at this moment, just close Hp Solution Center.
Then reboot your PC, when the system has finished loading all stuff, plug your USB cable to your printer and turning it on, you will see a system bubble saying that it has found a new device and that it is installing drivers and software, if during the installation the system asks for a permission of HP software to modify the system DON’T ALLOW IT (or HP is going to modify the system and you will end with the same problem again) don’t worry about any warning messages from HP, it will install all successfully since all the software and drivers are already installed.
Now try to use your printer from the different profiles, it worked for me, I Have one admin account, two standard users and a guest account; all of them can use the printer after this process.
I hope it works for you too.
