One Powered Sound System for Two PCs

I have a sound system linked to my Win 7 lap-top.
Have just bought a Win 7 desk-top.
Can I switch the sound from each machine with a manual USB switch-box.

I think this might work for you:

It is a KVM switch for sharing the monitor, mouse, keyboard, and audio between two computers. You could share just the sound system; it will provide both the USB and audio connections for this.

Can non-system [storage only] HDDs be powered down?
