mouse DOES wake up PC when asleep, UNLESS its been asleep overnight

Recently got a new mouse, an Anker 5 button optical which replaced my belkin 5 button optical. Both use the default microsoft driver. In device manager i have "allow this device to wake the computer" checked under the mouse section, and indeed the mouse DOES wake the computer no problem. However if the computer is asleep overnight, in that case the mouse will not wake the computer. Just to note - the PS2 keyboard DOES wake the computer even after overnight. The reason I prefer to use the mouse though is that the keyboard gets stored off to the side of my chair when not in use, so turning on the machine via the mouse is much more convenient.

Anyone got any ideas?

I know you'll hate me for this, but I've just got to say it anyway.

Computers are home appliances....and as such they should be SHUT OFF when not in use.

NOT ASLEEP or in Hibernation, but OFF. I've been stressing this to my Computer customers for decades.

If you have a decently FAST PC, it will boot up in ten seconds or so anyway. And, there are things that windows needs to do, like save the Registry to the HD, and that it can only do during a full shutdown.

I not only shut my PC's down at night, but when I boot them up the next day, they automatically make a new restore point. It's a little Script I run in my Startup folder.

Good Luck to you, Mate!

I agree with TechnoMage on this & not only should you shut the computer down you should also turn off the power at the wall socket as well. The reason for this is that the Power Supply is still powered when the wall socket is on & the motherboard has power to the USB outlets. If there is an electrical storm even some distance away it can damage the computer through a power surge or spike.

I also agree that computers should be turned off and AC disconnected by switch.

Did you check the advanced power configuration options to see if USB suspend is disabled?

Try to change the power settings to High performance and see if it enters into sleep mode. If it does, check BIOS options.
