Workaround for HP MFP to receive faxes to computer

We have an HP LaserJet M1212nf MFP in our office, and have two computers accessing it via an Ethernet router. We would like to have the functionality of the faxes we receive to automatically come to our computers, instead of getting printed. But, I have been told by HP Tech Support that "The fax to computer option is only supported through a direct USB connection for the M1212nf printer, not through a network connection."

Does anyone know of a way to work around this and allow received faxes to be sent to our networked computers?

If you have an old computer laying around, you could set it up on your network, and then connect the HP to it via USB cable. You could then share the HP with everyone off of that computer. And you would then have the fax to computer option, allowing you to save the faxes to a networked drive. (You could network the local hard drive on that computer, if necessary.)

If all received faxes are stored only in the HP fax software, and if people don't want to have to walk over to the computer to get their faxes, they could use something like Remote Desktop Connection to remotely get into the computer and get their faxes. On the other hand, if your office is small, then you could just all go over to the computer with the fax machine attached to get your faxes - that would be a simpler setup than remotely accessing the computer.
