    Hi @sheena bansal,

    Seagate Backup drives have a very high failure rate. Mostly it is an electronics failure where we can't be of any help in data recovery. Seagate offered free data recovery to one user and after months intimated the user that their data recovery partners were unable to recover any data on his failed backup drive..

    Please provide the exact model number. Is it still under warranty?

    Please run SeaTools for Windows and check your disk.

    https://www.seagate.com/in/en/suppor...ls-win-master/

    How to use: How to use SeaTools for Windows | Seagate Support

    Let us know the results.

    If it fails, talk to Seagate Tech support and check what they say.

    If SeaTools for Windows finds your drive healthy, then and only then we shall try data recovery.

    Hi All,
    Greets,

    @sheena bansal : Mam,
    Before running/doing anything else on the disk (Diagnostics,etc.), use 'EaseUS partition master free''s 'partition recovery wizard' to recover the whole partition & not just the data.
    Linux always understands/deals with storages better but i can't suggest one ! ( I never used any linux utility. I used EaseUS and recovered the whole partition from unallocated space on seagate external disk 1 TB. As it is partition recovery, you need not use/buy another disk. But, just detach the external disk till you prepare yourself through the EaseUS tutorials )

    Thanks & Regards. ...

    EDIT

    Just noticed an odd entry in your device manager saying ''PCI'' ! But if you tried the disk on other pc. ...

    Heyy I tried running short tests on Seatools. I ran Short DST, which failed [screenshot attached]

    I ran short generic and then long generic, both of them failed. [screenshots]

    I have now contacted Seagate support. Waiting for them to respond now.

    Is there any hope at all of saving my data?

    Heyy, could this issue be due to some virus?

    I lent this drive to my friend some time ago. She then gave it back to me last month itself.

    Could the issue have occurred then?

    I thought it happened coz I did not use it for one whole month. She said it worked wen she had it

    Hi,
    @sheena bansal : Mam,
    Did you test the drive on another computer ? Missing PCI device in device manager can cost dearer!

    Thanks & Regards. ...

    OK, It will be a good idea to try your Seagate external drive on your friend's PC. Try it and report what happens. If the same thing happens on her PC also then we shall definitely say that the problem is with the drive and not your PC.

    In that case we shall try to investigate your disk and see what it leads to.. It may be a long process and we shall go slowly step by step. ( I went back to yoongcy421's thread here Seagate 2TB Unallocated, Unknown, Not Initialized - Windows 7 Help Forums but his problem was slightly different in that the same Seagate model showed an exhorbitantly large volume)

    I keep my options reserved till you report after trying it on your friend's PC.

    Hi,

    I connected the drive on my Friend's laptop and it displayed a notification 'Seagate BUP slim... is successfully installed'. Hope its a good sign!!

    However, rest of the behavior was same as it is on mine. It did not display in 'My Computer'. Is visible in 'Disk Manager' and the icon for 'Safely remove hardware' displays my device name.

    Screenshots attached.

    If this means that there is even a slight hope of recovering the data.....I would be grateful!!!!
