Need of a Power House Laptop

    Hi everybody,

People keep telling me to get it and I am still not sure if I should do it.
I'm having a dilemma regarding the purchase of my new portable for work. I mainly work within browsers and code editors such as brackets. Since I always have around 40+ tabs open in chrome I need a small powerhouse because Chrome is a memory hogger as we all know, and some pages, like Unbounce that I use can alone eat up ~4 Gigs of RAM.

Aesthetically this thing is awesome Microsoft Surface Laptop i7
so I really want to ask if anybody had any experience coding on it?

Also, if you guys have some other suggestions in this kind of price range I will be happy to hear them.

I would never purchase a Surface laptop. Many surfaces have lots of problems; and you will have problems getting Microsoft to honor their warranties on these laptops. Finally, they are a nightmare to repair, if they are even repairable. Basically, you will be paying a huge amount of money for a disposable tablet.

The main thing you want is lots of memory and a big, fast hard drive. Go with at least 16 GB of RAM; 32 GB would be better. And get an NvME PCI Express solid state drive rather than a mechanical hard drive. Those are the fastest drives made. Lots of memory speeds up some things, and a solid state drive speeds up other things. If you have both, you will have a very fast computer.

An additional thing which helps if you have a lot of graphics is lots of video memory and a good graphics adapter.

Of course, you could really speed things up with a Dell Precision Workstation. Here is an example:

Dell Precision 7730, with a 17" monitor. You can make it even better by getting the SSD, bumping up the memory, getting better video, etc.

You can make this a superb computer if you are willing to pay what you would pay for the Surface.

I second a dell precision or thinkpad P series or T series. Could easily spec 32-64GB of RAM in those.

The Dell Precision 7730 is a powerful laptop. And powerful laptops has high end components that generates heat that is hard to dissipate on a laptop.
    - To do a maintenance on a laptop is a nightmare. To clean a heat sink or replace a CMOS battery you have to disassemble almost all the laptop.
    - For a much lower price, you buy a much powerful desktop with one or two monitors and a good keyboard and mouse.

To be fair that depends on the model. That's why I recommended ones that are user repairable and easy to get to those things.
