    Keyboard Keeps disconnecting

    HP DV6 Envy 7331SA
Win 7 ultimate - latest updates

    Left shift stopped working.
So new keyboard (upgrade to backlit version - very pretty!!)
    Installed no problem
Worked fine and went to bed

Following day, all was working and suddenly (after couple of hours) the keyboard stops responding to key presses
Uninstall the keyboard and reboot. Keyboard works again fine.

Do other stuff. Switched on again and all was fine then keyboard stopped responding (after maybe 20 minutes)
Uninstall, reboot worked fine for 5 minutes and then stops
Uninstall etc and this time it has continued working for long enough to type this post.

I poked around in the event log but there does not seem to be anything in Critical or Warning that might explain the problem

    So any suggestions?
(I'll post this before it happens again just in case and then reseat the keyboard ribbon cable - just in case!)

    Hello Rincewindwiz, some suggestions:

    1) Does the mouse remain working? Can you still use the mouse to move the mouse pointer while the keyboard input is playing up?
    2) Remove and reinstall keyboard driver in Device Manager. Just uninstall the driver and reboot, and it will be installed automatically.
    3) Does problem occur if you boot into safe mode?
    4) Plug in and try to use an external keyboard with your Notebook.

    Could have sworn I hd already replied to this . . . . .
Anyway, thanks for the comments to which the answers are

    1) Does the mouse remain working? Yes
    2) Remove and reinstall keyboard driver in Device Manager. This is what I do to get it working again
    3) Does problem occur if you boot into safe mode? Its intermittent. So Ive only tried safe mod once (and then for only 15 minutes or so) and it worked fine
    4) Plug in and try to use an external keyboard with your Notebook.USB keyboard works fine

The keyboard has now worked faultlessly for over 24 hours so maybe the gremlin has gone away (not that I am a great believer in things fixing themselves but . . . hey ho you never know!)
