What is the RED BOX DISASTER?

On the other PC the Cdrive HDD died.

After formatting commenced re-install. Win 7 Pro. OEM owned not pirated

After a few updates I see a red box never ever seen b4.

It advises about changes on Firmware or OS or UEFI drivers.

The Mrs. had installed some horrible thing called norton ghost which eventually forced the reformat.

I set about re-installing with the wrong Win 7 CD. Realized error and started over with the correct CD for her PC. Now after a couple updates seems I'm blocked.

So what are the next steps? Can I repair this disaster or am I forced to buy a new Win7 CD & will the red box disappear?

We need more information. What version of Windows are you trying to install as Windows Pro 7 was the wrong one. Also is the Windows 7 install DVD a Service Pack 1 version.

Are you installing to a desktop or laptop. You have mentioned it's an OEM activation, so is it a Dell, HP or an original factory installed OEM.

How old is the computer. You may have to enter the BIOS & reset the system from UEFI to MBR, which usually means setting it for Legacy installation.

Things are fine now. I reached for the wrong CD. I have them marked with our names only. And being a horder I still had the CD from an old PC now trashed. Installed the correct one for the PC and relief. All is well.

Please give us the hardware specs of the computer you're reinstalling Win 7.
Under OEM license you have two types:
    - OEM SLP for big builders (HP, Dell, Lenovo etc). This license aren't for sale for customers (and is the one my friend has)
    - OEM System Builder for small builders. This license are the one that you buy at Newegg etc

    Witch type are you installing?

Norton Ghost is a very good old program to generate disk images.

I would do a check disk.
Boot from the installation disk, go to Repair, open a CMD window and type chkdsk c: /f
