HP PhotoSmart 8200 Printer and Windows 7

I was given this printer and when I looked at the setup instructions, it said it was for a Windows OS up to Windows XP. It also said NOT to plug in the USB until the installation software instructed to do so. I thought the beauty of windows 7 was that it was "plug and play" with peripheral hardware. Also, my desktop case is set up for a parallel port printer - it doesn't have many USB ports and I'm using them for the EHD, Internet connection, and optical mouse added to the fact I do not have a USB/USB connector cable (which the directions say were not included with the printer. Any suggestion son how to set up this printer?

Hi it should come with a disk and follow the instructions you will have to use a USB port. printers are not plug and play. cable are cheap here is an example https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...58139331&psc=1
if you do not have enough usb ports then you could try and get a USB hub. https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-...21827342&psc=1
