Can't help but suggest that you think about utilizing Start10 from Stardock, which will cost you $5. It gives you 100% of the Win7 Start Menu functionality (which is what most people despise about the "tiled" Win8/8.1 and Win10 which disappeared the long-loved Start menu, even after MS brought back some of the original Start button mechanism to some degree in Win10).

I first learned about their previous Start8 product when I was building out new laptop replacements for some friends, and Win 8/8.1 was current. These people didn't really want to leave Win7 but I had no choice. Thanks to Start8 they really didn't notice any difference, as everything seemed to them to work exactly as it had with Win7 and the classic desktop and Start button.

When I began to fabricate Win10 machines for friends and family, I was thrilled to learn that there was also a Start10 product.

Start8 and Start10 support standard Win8/8.1 and Win10 functionality as well, for whenever you want to use that. So you have BOTH... genuine looking Win7 Start button and Start Menu desktop functionality, as well as the underlying Windows desktop design.

I have managed to produce "modern" Skylake and newer desktops and laptops that appear to be transparent upgrades for non-tech friends and family, who really don't like change. They've never complained and only appreciate that their new hardware is so much faster than the machines that got replaced.

I'm a longtime lover of Win7 myself, but have finally given in... thanks to Start10, which makes it really seem like I'm still running Win7. Give it a shot, is my recommendation.

It's possible to create updated Win7 install media (on bootable USB flash drives) that contains the crucial missing USB 3.0 driver (which is required for Skylake and newer chipsets, and which is missing from the original Win7 retail install media). You can also add the crucial missing NVMe driver (say for Samsung M.2 NVMe devices) if you want to build a new Win7 onto an M.w NVMe drive in a Skylake or newer machine. But eventually (in 2020, not too long from now) MS is going to stop pushing out Windows Updates. So you really have no choice, if you want new hardware, but to go with Win10.

Trust me: give Start10 a shot. You'll think you're running Win7, without losing any Win10 desktop functionality.

I use Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements for the Win 7 interface on Win 10.

The main problem of Win 10 is that it looks and works different.

Not to mention the it Spy everything (yes you can disable spy, but if you do, almost everything wont work).
Another problem are the updates you can't control. They are mandatory, no choices. One day you start the computer and it begins to install a new version. And for two hours you wont be able to use the computer.
After 2020, MS will stop delivering updates for Win 7. But Win 7 will work as it does today. And I have all offline updates (in case I reinstall win 7) MS releases SP2 for Windows 7

To be honest the look of 10 doesn't bother me as much as the spy and update stuff (don't even get me started on candy crush reinstalling with 'updates') which makes it more difficult to accept. Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll probably give those a try once my current machine craps out or 2020 comes.
