How to Convert Monitor Only into TV

If this is not the forum for this question, please let me know where to post it. Otherwise ...

I don't own a TV as I don't watch enough to justify having one. When I do watch, I use an extra and older Win 7 computer with a Viewsonic monitor. I've searched online and learned that a monitor, without the computer, can be turned into a TV. I'm on a free trial for Sling TV, and if I subscribe, I would like to use my monitor only without the computer for watching Sling TV or local stations (CBS, NBC, ABC).

I've read about external TV tuner boxes, but I'm not sure which one to purchase.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Jane

Attached is an image of the specs.

Search for "standalone TV tuner" and research each one carefully, that it matches the monitors interface (HDMI, DVI, ect) and whether the tuner is analogue or digital.

If you'd searched for "external TV tuner" then you will only find a mass of USB sticks that only work on the computer.

I've now spent over an hour searching the term "standalone tv tuner" and every model I found is either no longer available or used ones for sale. Any more suggestions?

There are lots on Amazon Took me 5 seconds to find this:
Amazon.com: Sabrent Stand Alone TV Tuner Box with Picture in Picture for TV/CRT/TFT and Plasma Monitor/Projectors (NTSC) ANALOG Only (TV-LCDHR): Electronics

This small sleek box lets you watch TV on your CRT/LCD or any VGA Monitors.
Simply plug it into a CRT or LCD monitor, without the need of a computer and you can enjoy watching TV shows right away

That is an analog model. If you look you can find digital converters, or you might find a digital in one box that will do the job.

    Probably ebay and elsewhere too.

    - Sling TV is a streaming service, that is, the signal comes by Internet, so you need a Internet box.
    - To watch local stations you need a digital receiver.
    - To have sound you will need a amplifier and speakers.

    My suggestion: Use your computer.
You need a digital receiver for open broadcast The 6 Best USB TV Tuners to Buy in 2018 (local stations) and install an antenna.

    Check this web page:
The 7 Best Digital Converter Boxes to Buy in 2018

Any of these converter boxes should work for you. As long as the connections match. Just about every TV has "RCA" or "composite" (red/white/yellow) inputs.

This one has lots of connections:
Amazon.com: ViewTV AT-263 ATSC Digital TV Converter Box Bundle 25 Mile Flat HD Digital Indoor TV Antenna and HDMI Cable w/Recording PVR Function/HDMI Out/Coaxial Out/Composite Out/USB Input: Electronics
RCA, component, HDMI, and Coaxial. It should connect to any TV. And it comes with HDMI and RCA cables, as well as an antenna. It also functions as a digital video recorder, if you plug in a flash drive.
