Printing in Black Only

Windows 7 / HP ENVY 5530 / WordPerfect 12:



Have tried every preference setting I can locate, but cannot limit printing to black-only / greyscale; even if the following steps are taken, it still prints with color.



- In Devices & Printers / Printing Preferences / Paper Quality / Advanced / Document Options / Print in Greyscale is set to Black Ink Only

- This is the only location I can find that offers an option to select such

- My previous HP printer had the option at an initial stage, not requiring navigating through all of the steps the 5530 requires.



Any assistance? Appreciated.

1. Can you use single-cartridge mode on the HP 5530? To initiate single-cartridge mode, pull out one of the ink cartridges (the color one), and then the printer will print from the one ink tank only. To exit single-cartridge mode, install both ink cartridges. See page 49 of the user manual.
2. Alternatively, tell Word Perfect to print in greyscale. You can, or you used to be able to, select File > Print > Advanced Tab, and uncheck print in color box.
3. Alternatively in WP12, select coloured text, click Format > Font, select a different font color.

- It's not a colored font/text issue; it's that there is section where the paragraph has colored fill, and that is what continues to print colored -- even when both the printer and WP preferences have been changed to greyscale.

There's always the old school down & dirty method of changing the driver of the color printer to a driver used for a BW laserjet printer.

I just installed the ENVY as a print to file machine. At first glance I saw there's no option to select print as greyscale. However, if you go to your control panel, devices & printers, the Envy should be there. Right click on the icon, go to printing preferences. Select the Paper\Quality tab & select Advanced. Under document options you have the option of greyscale. Change that to black ink only to ensure no other ink is used. That SHOULD be a workaround for getting your printer to do what you want. If it still doesn't want to cooperate then right click on the printer, go to printer properties & try replacing the ENVY driver with the driver for a monochrome laserjet, do a test page to see if the printer just does BW & is readable.

I'm sorry for having half of my response basically being a re-write of what you had posted.
If you're feeling either adventurous or hopeless, you could also assign a monochrome color profile to that printer temporarily. In the printer properties theres a tab for color management. Normally color info gets sent to the printer using Windows default settings so in theory how you see the color on the screen should be close to what comes out of the printer, What you could do is assign a BW profile to that printer & tell Windows no, use this to determine "color".
I've attached 4 BW color profiles. Un zip the files, select them all, right click & you should have the option of installing the profiles. Once installed, go to the printers color management. Check the box that says use my settings for this device.Thats telling Windows not to color manage the printer. Click the button "add" & find one of the profiles you just added & make it the default and you should be good.
