CrystalDiskInfo not showing Info on a Disk ???

This is sort of a hardware and a software question, so I flipped a nickel and here it is.

Due to having various problems and inconsistencies with WD DataLifeGuard Diagnostics, I installed CrystalDiskInfo last night.

At the time, I had seven disks connected; four via internal SATA and three via USB.

One of the internal HDDs is a brand-new WD RE WD2000FYYZ-0LUL1B2; the mate to it was in a double-disk dock.
The mate showed a complete list of information, same as for all the other disks.
However, the above-mentioned disk only displayed the model number, serial number, and firmware number; no temperature, no string of details that I don't understand, and no hours in service.
The disk seems to be fine; it is probably the quietest disk of the 25 or so we own.
I did my own style of health status test by copying 1-3/4 TB of mixed image files, consisting of jpegs, CR2 RAWs, PSDs, and a few odds and ends, copied onto the disk and then copied from that disk to another. Synchredible is sensitive; had there been a single corrupted file, it would have found it.

For what it is worth, this disk and another are SATA connected to a Vantec PCI SATA card; the other disk displayed fine.

What could be the cause of this disk not displaying all of the information ?
CrystalDiskInfo has to be seeing it, as it displays the model and serial numbers.

Thanks for reading and all help is appreciated.

It's due to the dock. If it's USB, a lot of SMART Info. is lost through that connection. You would have to use a SATA connection to see the real SMART data, etc.

If it was the disk in the dock, then I would suspect that as maybe the problem; the disk that is not reading is Sata-connected.

So what disk can't be read? Is it that WD? What is the model number? Is it WD2000FYYZ-0LUL1B2 ?

The number shows nothing in Google. It could be a glitch in CrystalDiskInfo, and I've seen that before, but mostly with SSDs. Let the author know.

I'm using version 7.0.5 64 bit and it works with my Hitachi.

Yes; the curious thing is, I have two of that WD model, bought new at the same time, one is SATA-connected, the other is in the dock; it is reading the one in the dock and not reading the SATA-connected one.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the disk and this is just another of those unexplainable computer mysteries.

Does HDTune show anything? You can read the SMART data and if you go under the Health tab you'll see power on hours.

Your question gives me incentive to go ahead and install HDTune; I already have it in my "Not Yet Installed" folder.
I will get it installed, see what happens, and post back the results.

Thanks !

If it still doesn't say anything, I suspect chipset issues with the communication of SMART data. Both with the HDD and the computer's SATA controller.

That's all I can think of other than a bad drive. WD does have their own HDD testing software. It's better to use the manufacture's testing software when testing a HDD.
