Install the French Canadian Keyboard

Hi .... I don't want to change the "language" of the keyboard, just the keyboard itself. I wanted to install the French Canadian keyboard (Backlit) .. So, I did it's easy ... and. it works .. sort of.

The problem is that while most of the keys work as they should (letters. lower and upper), many of them bring up the wrong images, or none at all.

The PC thinks (Control Panel/keyboard) thinks it has a StandardPS/2 keyboard... which it now doesn't.

There's a lot of useless information on the web about additional software (3rd party) and everyone always talks about changing the "language" of their installed keyboard ... How about the just chanhe the keyboard.. and just print the stuff that's on the keys ..DUH!

Anyone have an idea how this might be done.. Thanks much, Regards.. Michael

Hello lamboom - you are looking in slightly the wrong place, try this:

Quote:
Click Start windows icon , type intl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
On the Keyboards and Language tab, click Change keyboards.
Click Add.
Expand the language that you want. For example, expand French (Canada).
Expand Keyboard list, click to select the Canadian French check box, and then click OK.
In the options, click View Layout to compare the layout with the actual keyboard.
In the Default input language list, click French (Canada) – Canadian French, and then click OK two times.
In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click OK.

Success! .. sorta

Hi IKO22

You are awesome!... I stumbled into that intl.cpl on the web in some searches.. but, the instructions weren't as good as yours... (I need tutorials..

I would have liked to "View Layout to compare the layout with the actual keyboard." in what you called Options, but that tab didn't exist (Windows 7 - Pro ... 64bit)

I followed keyboard list & selected French(Canada) … That worked

However: "In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click OK.” No can do, that Tab doesn’t exist.

When I saw your link on the Microsoft site before, I didn’t think that instruction set would work, as they weren’t talking about keyboards, rater ‘languages” ..

I wonder where this tab: “Options” is?

Anyway.. It did work .. I think. Using Ctrl and Alt I can access the characters on the lower right of many keys. Also the “pipe” character (what I really wanted, far left, 2nd row down from top row - using left shift) works!
