keybord works differently in browser than in app like notepad.

I have a app called sharp keys that allows me to assign any key's function to any key. I just got a new keyboard and the layout is wacky rather then the usual placement of keys, so i have to reprogram some keys to make things usable so i'm not hitting things i don't want to all the time etc. So as an example, theres a backslash key on the left side of the KB that is redundant because theres one on the right too. And i keep hitting it by accident. So i went into he sharpkeys app and turned that key off completely Now it does nothing when i hit it as it should. The problem is, thats when i amp typing in a app like notepd etc. But in the browser the damn key still works ! I also tried changing it too the shift key which it's next to. Same thing....works as i programmed it in any word editor or any windows app but in the browser it still types the back slash.

Does anyone know what it is that controls this difference in how the browser looks at typed keys vs other apps?

Applications have a number of ways of obtaining keyboard input. Notepad does it a conventional way and is effected by the remapping of sharp keys. But there are other ways, such as looking at the raw keycodes before any mapping takes place. I suspect your browser is doing this.

I have no suggestions other than obtaining a keyboard with a conventional layout.

I know basically how it works. The app doesn't even have to run for the changes to be implemented, only to edit them. Because all it does is write the changes to the registry. Thats why this issue seems odd, because obviously all keyboard input is in the registry so if it changes something it should work in anything unless the registry just like the default things do.

Keyboard input does not go through the registry. Entries in the registry influence how keys are mapped. If an application examines keyboard input before mapping occurs it would be unaffected.

Found it....i had a app called keyscrambler running and that was causing it. Odd because keyscrambler is yellow when in a browser meaning it;s not active for that app. But it was because i shut it down and that fixed the issue.

Notepad behaves differently in Win 7 versus XP3
In XP3 I could select an entire string of unbroken (no spaces) characters in Notepad by double-clicking anywhere in the string. For example, if I double-clicked anywhere in a phone number written as 888-555-1212, Notepad in XP3 would select the entire string of characters. However, Notepad in...

No 32-bit browser works, but IE8 64bit does
Somehow in the last week Win7 stopped being able to run Firefox, Chrome or IE8 (32bit) browsers; however, IE8 x64 version runs just fine. I've done all kinds of Network troubleshooting but everything there seems to be fine. I also took the suggestion to reset the IE8 settings but that didn't...

Notepad (and Wordpad) Save Files Differently
I noticed that Notepad and also Wordpad save files differently in Windows 7. Here's what I mean: In the attachment, Notepad includes the file's full pathname when asking "Do you want to save changes...". Windows XP asked simply "Do you want to save changes to Hello.txt?" without including the...
