HDD Activity light blinks when DVD drive is enabled

Win7 64 home
For years this has been bothering me.
The activity light for hard drive on the front of the computer case blinks in a pattern.. blink...blink...blink...blink...
The only way I got it to stop (and it took a while to figure it out) was to disable the DVD drive in device manager.
Start-rt click My Computer- manage- device manager- DVD/CD ROM drives (Disable one showing).

Why does it consistently blink?

I remember something about power management, I remember something about auto play.

I'm on high power, nothing turns off, max cpu etc.

Is there a way to enable and not have the HD Case light blink ... blink... blink...?

Hello 7Forever, and welcome to Seven Forums,

You can unattach the HDD LED cable from your computer's motherboard, should you desire. However, you will no longer have that diagnostic in the event of any future boot failure.

Hope that helps.

That is the easiest resolution and it can be instantly removed if needed!

And while you're at it don't forget to cover your webcam lens for privacy but don't use tape...The residue damages the lens..

You would be very surprised how many people don't remember to do this. In my opinion, this is a MUST.

I've searched around various places and I have found different problems with hard disk lights blinking and constant hard disk activity, but I have not found one that matches my exact problem. I have a fairly newish computer, with an Asrock x58 Xtreme 3 motherboard, Intel Core i7 930, and an OCZ...

Constant Hard Drive Activity Light Gateway DX4860
For as long as I've had this machine (a little over a year) the HDD light is constantly going wild. (Erratic blinking, but ALWAYS blinking) After purchasing it, I had to send it in for a warranty claim on a bad mother board. Got it back, works fine. Used it for a few months, light still...

Why does my Hard Drive Activity Light Constantly Blink
Hi, I upgraded my HP Pavilion a1540n Desktop to Windows 7 a week ago. Ever since, my hard drive light constantly blinks. After looking at the disk activity in the Windows Resource Monitor and doing some research I am leaning towards the page file as the problem. I am not sure if that is in...

HDD light blinks every second.
I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate to my new PC (was XP before) and I noticed that the HDD light blinks every second even if the PC's idle. Is that a normal behavior for Windows 7?

LAN activity (blinking light) ... how to?
What I miss with "7" is that the network icon does not show activity, even in the unscientific way that the old XP "two screens connected by a line" thing in the system tray used to do. There may be a way to get "7" to do that... if so, I have completely missed it! ;) Not a deal breaker by...
