    Turn on Travelmate p658-m webcam

Does anyone know how to turn on the webcam? The user manual shows it and the device manager says the driver is installed. I cannot find the "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam" software anywhere.

    Hi Joey,

not familiar with that model, but does it have an e key, empowering,
mine also works with Fn + F2, the symbol looks a bit like a clock showing 10 to 2.

Click "Start," "All Programs," "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam" and click the program shortcut of the same name. This opens up the Webcam where you can see yourself, but it hasn't started recording yet.

note might also be under Cyberlink

    Thanks for your response.
There is no symbol on F2. There is no "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam" in the all programs list. Yet there appears to be a camera indentation on the bezel with a small hole next to it for an indicator lamp.

Would you provide the full model number for your Travelmate? I can find P658 for Vista and earlier and then Win 10.

Note that your system specs show an ASUS.

There is a download on this page-

Acer Crystal Eye Webcam 7.96.701 - Download

for the software. However, in paragraph two of the description, it says you can download it from Acer. That version is different than the latest.

In either case, open the .zip file and extract the files to a folder of your choice. Then run the setup.exe.

You should see the software in All Programs. You can also send it to your desktop. Note that if you have video editing software such as Nero, Cyberlink, Roxio, etc. that captures video, it should open your web cam from within it.

Thanks. I'll try it. I have already tried Suyin driver, and Bison webcam. Neither turn on the camera, altho Bison opens a small window that seems to indicate it will work but then crashes when clicked upon.

Using the link provided, I downloaded an .exe file which when executed (after many "declines" and ignoring the opportunity to "check out and update my computer") produced a .zip file, which when unzipped produced the Suyin driver that I already had and which did nothing when installed. It appears in the Control Panel's "Programs And Features" but nowhere else, not even the Device Manager's driver for the device.

As an aside: I have a small ASUS 1015p netbook which has a camera and comes with system software that produces an icon on the desktop which upon clicking shows me.
No such luck with my larger Travelmate.

One thing I noticed about all the drivers is that they say they're for Vista and some earlier OS's. None of them say Win 7 although the link I provided is supposedly from the Win 7 section. I don't know if running the .exe in Vista compatibility mode would help.

I also mentioned that there's a second download you can do from ACER.

The only drivers from Acer related to your webcam I could find for your system is the VGA drivers (your webcam is VGA). They're here-

Do you have any video editing software installed in the list of programs? You got me interested in how to access my Dell webcam. Can't find any specific software provided by Dell. I can access it using Nero Video and other similar software when capturing is enabled.
