intel mb/cpu upgrade w/o new win7 pro install - raid issue?

the pc with specs listed is getting old so time to replace with an upgrade = asus z170 pro & i5 6600K. win7 was likely installed in raid mode with the listed driver.

1st try - uninstall all mb/cpu devices in device manager ; shut down ; asus boot = BSOD

2nd try - change raid to ahci to use 'standard ahci 1.0 sata controller' to avoid BSOD ; use ms fixit 50470 to '0' reg keys for ahci ; set bios to ahci ; pSpec boot = post loops not getting to BSOD ; boots fine with bios = raid

trying to avoid time needed to reinstall many programs for a pc that is used many hours everyday, so any other info needed or suggestions are appreciated

the 2tb disk is used for backup data only & was disconnected during these tries - both are NonRaid volumes

no raid was ever setup or used, and there will be none on the upgrade (macrium reflect backs up daily). win 7 was installed in raid mode not ahci and appears to complicate the hardware switch, which is where i need help

Why have you set it as raid if your not going to use it you may need to do a repair

turns out that since raid was not created/used on system drives, with the new mb bios sata set to raid the move was simple & driver updates worked except for usb3 & issues with usb drives i'll make a new post about if i dont find answer soon

As I understood, win 7 was installed with BIOS set to RAID and you want to change it to AHCI as you don't have any RAID array disks.

in what i read directly transferring the HD with windows installed in raid mode (no one talked about the case if raid was never used) to the z170 MB would certainly fail. after talking with a microcenter tech (from which the pc was bought) i tried putting the z170 in raid mode & boot the HD which worked fine. there was no need to change anything but the z170 bios sata setting in my case.
