CSR Bluetooth 4.0 - how to make it connect headphones?

Hi, I've searched here and not found this specific answer, so I guess I need to post the question.
I've just bought CSR bluetooth adapter (TP-Link) for a Windows 7 laptop because Broadcom Bluetooth is problematic on Win7.

The CSR Harmony software installs fine, the adapter is recognized, the Bluetooth settings works fine, headphones are recognized and added when paired. And then the headphones can't be connected.

I've tried two different headphone models, they show up as checked/grayed in the Bluetooth Devices list (meaning they're installed fine and should connect automatically when turned on, but are not connected currently). All other Bluetooth hosts are turned off so there's no interference with these pairings afaik.

Odd things I noticed: There's no option to add the pairing code when adding the headphones, and there's no Connect button which you have with Broadcom drivers (which is how you usually direct devices paired with more than one host to connect to your current host).

So, umm, how do I get these apparently perfectly installed and paired headphones to actually connect? Is there a way to force connection and/or enter the pairing code?

Thanks for any help!
