Need help copying a dynamic volume
I need to do an in place upgrade from 7 64 bit. The single system drive is dynamic and won't upgrade unless it's basic. I tried 2 cloning softwares to clone to a basic drive (EASE US TODO & Macrium) and they both get thru the system reserve partition but then hang around 14% on the main partition (Windows). I tried to create a system image so I could attempt to restore it to a basic disk, do my in place upgrade and then worry clone it while it is clean but it also locks up the machine around 18% as well. Before all this I mirrored the drive and used the mirror as an experiment so it is not a disk problem.
I ran chkdsk multiple times until it was clean and then ran chkdsk /r which ran about 6 hours and found no issues. I think there's a damaged system file, one that isn't critical to the OS but won't allow a system image or any cloning to work. I tried the repair disk and the only option was to repair a computer that won't boot. Is there a Windows utility or other program to find and fix the problem?
My other thought was to take the drive out and move it to another computer while it's not a system disk and try to "copy" the files to another hdd (basic) in hopes it will boot my other machine into windows as a basic disk and then I can proceed. If this sounds feasible, how do I get my partitions (system reserved and Windows are two partitions) to copy to the new drive? Do I need a command prompt? Help. I've been on this one machine for a month now with no success.
