Volume name for HDD in Windows 7 Home Premium

I have given descriptive volume names to all HDD that I have (e.g. "WDGT 250GB OS C Drive" is what it would show for C drive in name column in Windows explorer. However, now I observe that the volume name shows up only when I boot into safe mode. If I boot into normal mode, it only shows as "Local Drive (C:)". Also, this phenomenon is restricted only to internal drives. External USB drives are shown correctly.

I suspect this has to do with some Windows 7 setting / registry entry as the names do exist properly and also show up in safe mode. Only in normal mode they show up as blank (when I right click and select Properties on the drive letter) and that too only for internal drives only.

Any help to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm, it works for me with no problem. My c is called System, d is Applications & Data, and e is Misc & Swap

Are you using an Administrator account?

If you right click on the drive and select Rename, does that stick?
