    Ram Capacity

    Greetings all,

    I have 2-3 questions;

    1)..Re: Dell Optiplex 210 - (Win 7 Ultimate, 3.0ghz) this has 2 ram slots if I recall...
A...How much ram (+ type) is max for this desktop?
B...IF the max ram is listed as 2gb for example, is that the SUM TOTAL OR, is it 1GB ram per slot (1x2)?

2)..Pertaining to 2-slots, what problems could exist if inserted in one slot is a 2-gig stick and in the other a 1 gig stick?

3)..I was looking in TASK MANAGER and saw a listing "Virtual Disc"..What is that about since I did not install Virtual box (or similar) on the hard drive?...What would happen if I were to stop it via Task Manager from starting when computer starts?

You could look it up. It is not hard. Is the machine a 210L ?

PC2-4200/5300 DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs. If you can't find 4200, the 5300 will work, it just runs at 4200 speed. DDR2 ram sticks can be had for pennies second hand
    for example
    2 GB PC5300 DDR2 240 Pin Memory

---Not quite sure I understand...There currently exists a 2gig ram stick in one slot and a 1 gig stick in another (this can't work well in my mind)....I have read that the computer has a 2, then a 3, then a 4 gig capacity Win Win 7 32bit...all contradictions.

PC2-4200/5300 DDR2 SDRAM DIMMs. 2x2gb max. DDR ram sticks can be had for pennies second hand
    for example
    2 GB PC5300 DDR2 240 Pin Memory

--I saw that but, saw others that said differently.....Now, Is it 1gig per slot or could one 2-gig stick work in a single slot?...If a 2 and a 1 as mentioned above, what issues could that cause?

Crucial have an Upgrade Advisor page that is a reliable guide to this. For the Optiplex 210L and 210Ln they say that 4GB is the maximum RAM you can install. That's in total, whether that's 4GB in one slot or a pair of 2GB in two slots.

    Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | dell | optiplex | OptiPlex 210L | Crucial.com

Note that if you have 32-bit W7 then you won't be able to use all of the 4GB, some 1GB of the address space would be reserved for accessing the video RAM.

---Thanks for the reply(ies)..I will look there in a few min....seems strange all the ram into one slot w/out issues.....Ok, off to the coffee pot I go and back later.

What is the exact 7-character "service tag/serial" number on that Dell?

What is the exact Windows version on its Certificate-Of-Authenticity sticker?
