You have a very good laptop. Just pay attention on the temperatures as the heat sink gets dusty.
My suggestion is to use Open hardware monitor . Extract to a folder and run. You can set to start with windows. Very good.

I thought you have a desktop, that is why I suggested the 3.5" HDD. Sorry.
    HGST (Hitachi) 2.5"

As you said, not easy or cheap to buy a good laptop. And a new one comes with Win 10 that is hard to swallow.
I would buy a drive replacement.
In the future, if you decide to buy a new computer, you can place the drive (HDD or SSD) on a USB caddy.
    Thank you.

Yes, I did my research before purchasing it. I bought it 4 years ago, decommissioned by some government department and refurbished, at a fraction of the price. I've been using it for 4 years now with some minor part replacements (so overall it's about 7 years old). The previous laptop I bought new for the same amount of money, and it completely fell apart after 3 years. Couldn't be fixed, or rather wasn't worth it.

I wouldn't call it a 'laptop' exactly as it weighs a few kilos. )) You wouldn't take it to a coffee shop. But you can take it in a car or on a plane, and at the time I planned to go travelling. It is also very serviceable.

But every time I ring HP for support, they are telling me my laptop is very old, and I need to buy a new one. I say, nah, I like this one. ))

I will look into the hard disks, thank you.

    Need more help please

So I have bought a Hitachi 2.5" internal HHD for my laptop on eBay. It arrived this week, but when I unpacked it, I saw that it came without the cover (or case, or whatever it's called), so I can't connect it to my laptop. I could have reused the cover from the old drive, but am unable to undo the screws on the casing; plus, I have lost some of the screws that fit the whole thing into place when removing it from the laptop.

When I bought my old drive on eBay the last time, it came enclosed in the case and with the screws to put it in place. It didn't even occur to me that this might not be standard, and that the drives could be sold without the case cover.

I looked on eBay and the internet in general to buy the casing, but all I can find are external caddies. The problem is I don't know what it's called. I tried searching for internal case, internal enclosure, internal cover, internal tray, etc. but can't find anything.

What I need is very similar to the thing shown through this link. I found this one accidentally on eBay, but firstly, I am not sure it's exactly what I need, that is if it would fit the secondary drive slot on my laptop (although it looks very similar to my old one) and secondly, it's shipped from China with the arrival date well into August, and I can't wait that long. It also looks like it doesn't have the screws to attach it in place. Can I buy the screws separately somewhere? It's proving to be a headache.

What is this thing called and where can I buy it (with the screws)?
