See what seatools for windows identitifies it as.
    https://www.seagate.com/files/www-co...-installer.exe

    Take screenshots .

Then you have evidence for Amazon and your credit card company.

Approach Amazon first, I assume they have a method for dealing with that kind of thing.

If that is unsuccessful ,then ( in the UK at least ) the credit provider is jointly and severally liable with the trader for any breach of contract. Technically it applies for transactions of £100 or over, but they will often oblige on smaller amounts.

It may have the Seagate label but it is a Samsung HD103UJ.

    Send it back to Amazon

    Hi,

    I have contacted Amazon
They reply that I have to contact the vendor
They state that waranty is due for malfunction, .... and so on : 2 years
30 days to state that the product is not conform

I have bought it last year, to have a drive in case of failure of currently used ones. Of course I have only checked that label and aspect were conform, not tested that it did work and correctly built ...

So I am waiting the response of the vendor who selled me this HDD through the Amazon portal ..
Amazon is of no further help and not willing to

I will contact Seagate as well

I join screen captures of SeaTools report for that driveHDD 8TB Seagate Barracuda shows only 1 TB-seagate-seatools-1.jpgHDD 8TB Seagate Barracuda shows only 1 TB-seagate-seatools-2.jpg

What you purchased from Amazon is a Samsung Spinpoint HD103UJ 7200 RPM SATA hard disk drive.
It is rated at 1 TB and has an actual capacity of 931 GB.

The label does show an 8 tb barracuda according to the model number. Amazon.com. You have a label/model mismatch so either you where duped or someone made a mistake. If you bought that from a vendor it's likely a mistake. If you bought it from an individual they might have put an 8 tb label on it. I would work with Seagate and replace it. I am seeing a lot of bad reviews on that serial number.

    Follow-up

    Hi all,
I have sent a message to Seagate support, with screeen captures as above. I am waiting for their answer / position regarding that "error".
As well I am waiting for an answer from the third party vendor who has sold me that drive via the Amazon platform.
As said Amazon will probably do nothing of help ( semmes it is only a cash-producing company ...). In teh future I will seek other specialized vendors for my computer products !

    TIA for your support.

Will keep informed as the problem progresses ( I hope .... : this was not cheap !)

Some lessons are expensive. You can't know about this kind of problem until you get the drive. Where you unable to test the drive before the 30 days was up?

Unfortunately there isn't anything that you can do with the size of the current drive since that was how it was manufactured. I hope that you are able to straighten it out. Like I said it might be a mistake. However if the model on the label was what you ordered you might have additional problems even if you are able to get the correct drive. I read a lot of bad reviews on it's design on 2 Amazon pages. I don't know which one you used or if you bought it from another page. I suppose the important lessons are to research products and sellers ahead of time if you are cautious.

Backblaze data center has thousands of HDD on their data centers.
They publish a HDD failure report by brand and model. Of course the drives are huge and professional level. But is good to have an idea of who is building the most reliable HDD
