    Is my hard drive failing?

Yesterday when booting my desktop I got a message that my hard drive is failing and to back it up. So I put it into my server to scan it with Windows Seatools. It passed the Smart test, the short drive self test, and the short generic test however the long generic has now been running almost 19 hours and Windows has now told me 3 times this morning that the drive is failing. More information specifies the drive I am checking. There are times that the test seems to have gotten stuck however I've gotten it up to 81%. I was hoping that the test would finish so that I could get a report. So is the drive dying? It's a Hitachi hds721010cla332 1 tb. Computer information is in the system specs under pc 1.

I am attaching screenshots from HD Sentinel. All I did to the system yesterday was remove a secondary drive with the computer shut down. No issues for the past 6 months with that drive. I did transfer a lot of data too it as well. Could that have done it?

The long check never completed. I am now back to running my desktop and no error messages that the drive is failing.

It looks like it is. No point in risking any grief. I would replace it.

I wonder why the smart test passed in the seatools. Also while running Windows why have I not gotten any errors unlike when I had it slaved on my server?

I've ordered a new hdd and it should be here tomorrow. I still haven't received an error inside of windows that the drive is failing. Any idea why? Should I have?

    Sir,
Over the years, I've had several hard drives fail, mostly WD's, and NEVER did windows tell me anything about it.
I guess that's just not Windows job.

But, Please....if you're replacing a hard drive, replace it with an SSD. Never a spinner.

I think you'll be really glad you did. The performance of an SSD is many times greater than a spinner (mechanical HD).

    Cheers Mate.

@TechnoMage2016 Windows did eventually tell me when the hard drive was slaved to the server so it has the capability.
