I would not worry about the UDMA mode 5 versus 6. You would hardly note a difference - maybe a little in RAID0 or if you transferred data from one disk to another on the same channel.

Just turned AHCI on, edited registry and all, and it seemed to make my drive slower. Is this normal?

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Run it again and it may be a point or 2 higher.
iwouldn't worry to much about it though. As much as it's off, not even 1Mb/s, i would consider it as a margin of error nothing more.

ACHI mode doesn't always offer more performace, depending on your setup.chipset etc.

Comparing Hard Drive Performance
Is there a site, much like the video card comparisons, that lets you compare two specific hard drives, in terms of performance? For example, if I wanted to find out which drive offered better performance, a Seagate 7200.12 1 TB drive, or a 500 GB Western Digital Green drive. I have a pile...

I'm new to these forums; forgive me if this is a stupid question. I just purchased a digital media player, one of those little solid-state boxes with usb and SD inputs. It plays any video format from any storage device I plug into it, a wonderful thing. However, when I plug my little...

Hi All, My PC's Windows Experience index rating is currently at 5.9 due to my HDD. It's a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB. Which HDD should I look at to get more performance out of the rig? All the other fields are in the 7.0 to 7.6 range. Thanks!
