FYI - User Report for Seagate 4TB GoFlex

I just purchased a recently released Seagate 4TB GoFlex and thought that perspective buyers may be interested in the numbers I got with mine. My numbers didn't look quite as good as AnandTech.com's test results, but my primary concern was the over-heat risks that AnandTech warned about in his 3TB GoFlex bench tests. I full-loaded it as best I could for 12 hours straight and could not get it to reach even close to the 67C temp that AnandTech claims/warns during his tests.

It is much too early to share an opinion on the overall performance or the reliability of this 4TB external drive. But since I use high-capacity external fans with all of my external HDDs, I personally have no concern for the over-heating issue after testing mine with and w/o fans. I don't particularly recommend it for high-performance data access or transfer; I was slightly disappointed since it supposedly contains a Barracuda XT OEM drive --- which I think is the ST4000DX000 designation for the XT. Although I connected it to an ssUSB 3.0 interface, the number weren't great. But perhaps it's my slower mobo bus speed that affected it. But since I use it for data backup only, I don't care about speed.

Also, this newer 4TB GoFlex casing does have REAL breathing vents instead of the faux-vents found on their 3TB model. After my research, I personally would not buy the 3TB GoFlex. The downside for the 4TB is that it only has a 2 year warranty, which doesn't exactly instill a warm feeling about the confidence level of the Seagate engineers who designed and tested it.

I hope this report is helpful to prospective buyers. Below are some screenshots.

Access isn't too bad, but transfers and burst are.
