    I would consider it average for a HDD. Not bad but not the fastest either. You can sleep in peace, LOL.

    The problem with the HDDs is the access time. 17ms is the weak point. That's why the enthusiasts move to SSDs where the acess time is 0.1ms - 170 times faster.

    That is pretty fast. I assume it is a 7200RPM drive. Beats mine which is at 98.7MB/sec Average and 15.7ms access. How big is your buffer - mine is 16MB.

    To avoid confusion the next version of HD Tune wil show 'n/a' instead of '0 MB' for hard disks with buffer lengths of 32MB and above.

    32mb Buffer. It is a Samsung HD103SJ 1TB. They are good drives. It beats my WD Black SATA III 1TB FAEX 64MB buffer.

    That is certainly a pretty good drive. Mine is only 500GBs but I paid only $35 for it (9 months ago);

    I also noticed (when I image) that the eSata is appr. 15% slower than the internal Sata. The eSata runs at appr. 600Mb/sec and the internal at 700Mb/sec.

    WHS, do you think that the difference may be in your external dock? I find very little difference, if any at all. There is a thread here somewhere where we were discussing it. I did a Macrium backup to an internal drive and turned around and did the same backup to an external drive. As I recall, the external was about 4 seconds slower.

    That is possible Steve. It was a cheap dock from Newegg on sale. I think I paid only $23 for it. It has USB2 and eSata. Also has 2 addl' USB2 ports and a card reader - that is when you plug the USB2 cable in too.

    The somewhat slower speed does not really bother me. It is still fast enough. I use it only for imaging - and that can run in the background. My system image from C: takes about 4.5 minutes. My data partition is bigger and takes about 8 minutes.
