Yeah, it's not that AHCI would really throw you in an entirely new dimension of computer experience, it's simply one of those things you do just because you can.

OMG I tried to shut down my computer 2hours ago and guess what, screen and HDD actually stopped but that's all! CPU's, GPU's and case's fans did not. I disabled the AHCI and it solves the problem.
It certainly comes from an error in the BIOS, I dunno. So for now I let the IDE mode enabled, I will probably make an entire system cleaning and reformating next week, I will switch back to AHCI at the same time :)
Make sure to slipstream RAID drivers for your chipset/controller into your XP installation CD if you happen to run an XP/Win7 dual-boot system!
...but as far as I remember you have a floppy drive so you can also use the 'press F6 to load drivers from Floppy method'.

well this is my hdd that i use in my dell d600. I installed windows 7 on it yesterday and pretty surprised it works pretty fast (without the tabbing visuals .. of course) seems kinda faster than when i had xp on it..... weird.. but i'll take it.
soon I'll get one of those fast ocz drives and pop it in my old p4 478 comp.
