Will the ugreen hard drive enclosure work?

Hi! I ordered a Ugreen hard drive enclosure from Amazon, and it came the other day. I got it so that I can be enable to view and edit contents of hard drives that need to be fixed now and then. I put a hard drive in it, but then saw that the plug end is a kind not used or not commonly used in the USA (but is common in the UK, where it came from). The prongs of it are different and won't fit into wall sockets here. My husband gave me a 12 volt plug he has, to try out. I plugged it in, but the hard drive in the enclosure doesn't show up in "My Computer". So what did I do wrong? Should I return it to Amazon? Or is there a way to get it to show up on my computer that I don't know of yet? Thanks!

    UK mains are 240volt.

You need to check if the mains adapter that came with the ugreen thing can handle the different voltage in the US.

Might help if you link to the amazon page for the exact item you ordered.

That is a photo, not a link.

If it is this one, looks like an adapter is provided that converts uk mains ac into 12v 2A DC.

So you need an adapter that converts US mains into 12volt 2Amp DC

UGREEN 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure, USB 3.0 External SATA HDD Caddy for 2.5 3.5 HDD/SSD up to 16TB with 12V 2A Power Adapter, Support UASP and Trim for Windows Linux MacOS, PS4, Xbox, TV, Laptop : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

If you are using the correct adapter and the disk is not showing , type diskmgmt.msc in start search box and see if it shows in disk management. It might just need letters assigned to the partitions .

Look under the AC plug. What is the rated input voltage, 240V or 100-240V?

Amazon link for travel power adapters. They sell 'em on eBay, too. I'd make sure they're UL listed...

In a nutshell you just want an adapter, not a convertor. Better yet, return that and get a unit that is made for the U.S. I like Vantec's products. Check them out.

This is all you need unless you absolutely require the "box" - an enclosure.

Hi! The one I gort from Amazon is 100-240V voltage. As one of you suggested, maybe I'm better off returning it and getting one made for the USA. Unless their product is better and can do more than those of their kind available in the USA.. I want to be capable of seeing what is in hard drives and modifying their contents when it comes from a laptop computer that crashed, so that I can fix it that way. And to be able to use it on hard drives of varying sizes if there are other sizes commonly to be expected in laptop computers. And can I modify hard drive contents, regardless of what OS system I had installed it - windows or Linux? Or are all exterior hard drive cases capable of handling all operating systems that have been put on them? By the way, I sent for 2 of the ugreen hard drive cases, as I hadn't noticed that I'd ordered 2 of them - somehow I overlooked it! And I need only one. I will check over the Vantec site now as one of you suggested to see what they have in hard drive cases. Do you think Vantec's ones are capable of doing what they are capable of doing? Does the exterior type of hard drive case work no better than those without a case? I bought a Sata cord from Amazon for the purpose of viewing the contents of hard drives. But it isn't powerful enough for the contents to show up - it looks like, as I don't see it. I'll attach a picture of it, and also the usb hub I bought so that it could also be plugged into the wall. I think it will cost a lot of money to mail it back to UK.
The caddy you bought on UK can be used with a plug adapter.

Those adapters you and F22 Simpilot listed can't be used.

What I don't understand is why did you bought the caddy on UK when the same is for sell in us

Hi! Ok, I'll just keep it then, and find an adaptor to make it usable here. Thanks so much for explaining about this! I ordered it, from advice I'd gotten here in another posting. It was so hard for me to tell what was the best kind to use, that I chose to use exactly the one he recommended. All I knew was that the kinds I'd tried hadn't worked, as they lacked sufficient power. This site I looked up recommended these kinds of adaptors - I plan to choose the one labeled as "safest" to use: How to use plugs from United Kingdom in United States of America And here's the link in Amazon for that kind of adaptor: Amazon.com Here's a picture of it there: Will the ugreen hard drive enclosure work?-image.png Does this look ok? I see my plug is type G. I'll ask the seller quesitions about it first, too. Like I don't yet know if the adaptor comes with a plug-in cord or not.

The multi adapter you choose will work but it cost 3 times the one I recommended. You are wasting money.
Those multi adapter is big and doesn't provide a good contact as the one I recommended.

Hi! I can't open up your link. I'm not able to open up all links on my computer, though most will open up. When they fail, I get the error message that I need to increase security on my Google account first. But that doesn't help fix the problem either. So I just avoid such links.
