Make Drive Letters Permanent - Using Multiple Drives?
Using a basic MBR\BIOS setup:
Just asking this makes me feel rather, well, 'limited'
Because I believe I already know the answer and it's: 'There's no way to do it'.
I am running multiple storage drives (4) drives using separate power switches for them.
These are completely separate from my main system drive which is permanently powered on,
and partitioned as well. In addition, It appears the Primary volumes have permanent drive letters (C, D, etc.).
These separately powered storage drives are SATA and NOT USB.
So this may be a question directed towards Logical drives only?
Used diskpart to set the drives\letters.
But they don't 'stick' depending upon which [and how many] drives are powered on at boot.
In order to do what I am asking, I need to have the drive letter set by VOLUME (DRIVE) NAME, not by DRIVE LETTER.
So I guess the right question is: Can we set drive letters by volume name permanently?
That way, when choosing which drive I need, I could setup links to it and it would be permanent?
However, so far, I am not able to do it consistently (permanently). I've tried using links* as well.
There's times when I can boot with the #2 storage drive powered on with #'s 1, 3 & 4 drives powered off
and it somehow does assign the correct drive letter.. But this doesn't happen often. Many times
it will be incorrect link\letter and force me to change (repair) it after system boots up so my network can find it.
I suppose I could simply make a main (top tier) folder for each & use those for links.
But I was hoping to find something where I could link the drive itself via the letter.
Am I asking too much? I wholeheartedly thank anyone who could help me with this.
