DVD drive dissapears upon disk insertion?

I've got a TSSTCorp TS-L632D DVD drive, installed on my Dell Inspiron 1501 notebook by default. Not sure if it's a problem with Windows 7, but recently, sometimes when I insert a blank DVD-R or DVD-RW, the drive vanishes from the device manager, and the disk won't even eject if I press the eject button. I then need to restart my computer, and the drive is listed. I burn a disk or two, put another blank one in, and history repeats itself. It's really starting to piss me off. Tried reinstalling the drivers etc etc.. still does it. Help? Thanks in advance...

    Hi TA and welcome

have you checked device manager to see if the driver is installed and working? type device manager in search>goto the dvd tab. Is your device listed? does it have a yellow triangle on it? Are there any "unknown devices" with yellow on them?

Sorry the reply took so long, but, no. It is installed properly, and there are no unknown devices.
