Fans don't seem to be working after installing windows7

    Dear all,

Last week I did a clean install from Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32 bit to Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. During the process this forum helped me a lot, and most of my problems are solved now, but... Since I installed Windows 7 I noticed that my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1545, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz, 4 Gb RAM, Intel Chipset) is getting very hot on the surface and I don't hear the fans running anymore. While using Ableton Live 8 the laptop shut of twice, I think of overheating.
I had contact with Dell Support today, who said they couldn't help me because I did my own install of Windows 7, but the tech guy told me to do a BIOS update, which I did, without any results so far. I downloaded SpeedFan which tells me my CPU temperature is at rest (only Firefox and Media Player opened) around 60 C. When I want to configure my fans through SpeedFan the program doesn't find any fans to control.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how can I fix it?

    All help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi and welcome

There is a known issue between some laptops and win 7 64bit. Mine was one of them. Mine is also a dell. I found a neat app solely for dells that handles it. My lapbrick was running at least as hot as yours and now its about 125F. See pic for app and link

First of all, thanks for your reaction. I found this app as well and tried to install it, but Windows won't let me install the driver because it is not a signed certificate. Do you know anyway how to bypass this?

Can you install in compatibility mode?

Okay, I got the fancontrol program working with help of another forum about making it run on Windows 7. It shows me the temperatures and lets me select to make the fans run faster. Only that doesn't do anything, it also doesn't show numbers in the fan rpm window. It seems that my computer doesn't recognize my fans anymore.

Anyone got an idea (apart from going back to Vista, which I don't really wanna do)?

Did you disable driver enforcement to install the app? Right-click it and select run as administrator.

Are you talking about the app I suggested?

That gives dells full control of everything

If yours doesnt there is a problem.

Yes that's the app. I got it working, but when I force the fans to high speed they don't turn on, neither does the program show the fans RPM.

So I guess you're right when you say there's a problem. Does anyone have an idea what the problem is?
