    problem getting old printer working

    Hi,
My wife just got a gateway netbook with the windows 7 starter edition, and I dug out an old printer from about 2003, Dell A940 printer/scanner. I downloaded the necessary drivers I think. It'll scan but it will not print. Word reccognizes the printer by the way, but if I try to print I get the error, Windows cannot print due to the current printer set up (or something like that).
Under start -> Devices and Printers the printer says status: Needs troubleshooting, however the troubleshooter can find no problems. Also, under Dell A940 properties -> Hardware, there are a series of device functions that all report "This device is working properly." Also, I checked the Windows 7 Compatability center, and it said that Windows 7 is not compatable with this printer. I am really not too familiar with windows, I'm an linux user as opposed to the pretentious ranks of mac users :) , so excuse me if i'm obviously not looking in the right place, but does anyone have any insight into what I need to do to get this printer working. Alternatively, if this printer is really not compatable, does anyone know of a workaround? Also, please forgive any spelling errors, this netbook keyboard is tiny :)

Hey GT and welcome to Seven Forums!

What drive have you installed? Someone else had this problem and they just didn't have the right driver. Let me know and I'll see if I can get you the right one.

    Thanks,
    Sarah

Sorry, I'm not exactly sure. I downloaded the driver through the troubleshooting update manager thingy, so it selected it as opposed to me downloading it manually. Would it be in the Update history? Sorry again but where should I look to see what driver was downloaded?
    Thanks for the promt response

That's ok. If you could uninstall your printer and install this driver I believe it will work.

    Drivers and Downloads

Download the driver first and then when you are installing, it will prompt you which printer you have and click on have disk. Locate where you downloaded the driver ( I recommend the desktop since its the easiest to find) and then click ok.

    Hope it works!
