    Long splash screen cycle

My splash screen stays up for a long time - longer than booting the system. I have been looking all over the BIOS but did not find any screw to turn. My BIOS is Phoenix Technologies, LTD 5.20 10/03/2007. Does anybody have a hint where to look.

The splash screen the BIOS posts that comes up when you power-on the system. In my case it says HP...bla, bla, bla and specifies the F-keys to call the Boot menu, the BIOS setup and the Repair.

Right, the Power On Self Test. That happens to me when I add certain H/W. Try removing all devices from your MB, and plugging them back in 1 at a time, and see what the slow piece of HW is.

Hmm, I never knew it was referred to as POST. Thank you, I will try that. I have a lot of stuff hanging off my USBs - looks like a porcupine.

I am referring to all hardware. Strip your system. Leave only the CPU untouched. Start by plugging in optical drives, followed by hard drives, next expansion cards, and finally, external devices, like USB.

    WHS:

On earlier PCs I owned, there was a BIOS choice to turn that off--it saved a few seconds. I just looked in my current PC and no such control. The only choice I have is to omit the text "press F2 to run setup", but the splash screen itself still displays.

So, you may be out of luck.

Yeah, I think you are right. And Jonathan wants me to do slave labor. But I think next time I take everything apart, I will try that. I am not sure though what I will do when the result is that a vital component holds it up.
