Windows 7: Hard Drive Upgrade

14 Dec 2009   #11

W7 64 bit

Thanks for the responses, I will definitely be getting a new drive.

At the moment I'm leaning toward a 1TB Spinpoint F3. In most of the reviews I've seen, the Velociraptor doesn't out perform the Spinpoint by much so I can't really justify spending the extra money on it. Plus I had intended to get a Spinpoint as a second drive anyway.

I've had a look at SSD's now and the cheap end - like Kingston's V Series, which is around 175 for 128GB and includes a 3.5" mount and Acronis - doesn't get reviewed too well. Everything else is very pricey but that goes without saying. If I find a suitably priced SSD I may go for that but it will likely have to be smaller than the Kingston. Shame that drive isn't better, it's nice to have things come with all the extras you might need.
