    printer shaing problems

I have two computers: a desktop (Called "D1") using Win7-64, the other is a laptop (L2) that I just upgraded to Win7-64. I had WinXP Pro on L2 and was able to share the printer connected to D1. When I upgraded the OS on L2 to W7-64, it will not share the printer. I get an error message when trying to set it all up. The message says I need to upgrade or fix the driver. The driver is the latest one posted on the HP site. The printer is an HP 1510. Any ideas?

BTW - I went in to the printer properties and had Windows check for updated drivers and it reports that I have the latest versions.

Are both the pc's able to share files or no sharing whatsoever works? Clarify which computer can not use the printer and which can use it.

This should be what you downloaded from HP for the 1510: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al-75052-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=4063&product=428800 Is the printer networked by wireless, USB, parallel, serial, etc ?

Another thought I had is if you had a Windows 7 firewall rule/filter or other Win7 security setting stoping the communication.

The printer is a USB printer and is connected to the desktop computer. That setup works just fine. I used to have XP on the Laptop and that worked just fine, even when I upgraded the desktop to W7-64 and the laptop had XP Pro-32.

I will try to update the printer driver, but first will check any firewall rules, although I do not have a software firewall installed on either computer - maybe the Windows firewall though.

Now I am stuck! I reinstalled the drivers - the ones in the link that SteveUsesWin7 provided. BTW - it was the same driver set that I used before and I used the four step removal tool to remove all drivers before I reinstalled the new ones. I turned off Windows Firewall, Avast, and Windows Defender on both machines, but still no-go.
Here is the error message that I get when I try to connect via Devices and Printers:
"Windows cannot connect to the printer. Some driver files are missing or incorrect. Reinstall the driver or try using the latest version."

I do have file sharing set up and am able to share files across both computers. Now what do I do?
