Hard drive recognise as a internal drive.

i recently bought a 240 Gb external hard drive which when connected to window 7 32 bit installed on my machine show as an internal drive than an external drive. Since it recognize it as internal drive there is no option to safely remove it thus i have to shutdown the system every time when i want to remove it in order to save it from possible crash.
    Any solutions?
    Thanks in advance !
