You have PC2100 and PC3200 memory sticks installed and this may be the reason. You have chosen the same brand of sticks but you should have chosen identical sticks as well IMHO,wait for more definitive opinions on this.

    msconfig - maximum memory?

msinfo32 > hardware > memory can give you an idea of what is going on (it is copy/pasteable).

Well it shows the missing ram as "hardware reserved". The video memory may be stomping on it (though tyhat /ususally/ only happens when you go over 3 gig).

Did you get the full 512 when you only had 512 in?

You wouldn't happen to have changed any settings within MSconfig would you?

Your video card may not be, but your motherboard does have onboard video,

If you haven't make sure that the "VGA Share memory size" is set to disabled (under "Advanced Chipset Features - AGP & P2P Bridge Control". If it is set to the default, that should get back 64 MB of the missing 256 MB, not sure where the rest would be though.

shouldn't make any difference as the faster stick should automatically downclock to the slower speed. What it could be is that one stick is high density and one is low density,
