Curious but where is this 9500 at 3.0 Ghz coming from? They are only 2.2 Ghz,

AMD Processors for Desktops: AMD Phenom?, AMD Athlon? FX, AMD Athlon? X2 Dual-Core, AMD Athlon?, and AMD Sempron? Processor

They are also first gen Phenoms and not worth buying now.

I'm guessing you meant the 945 then. They need to correct their site as that CPU is the Phenom II, not just Phenom. If that is the one you're looking at it will work just fine on that board. Also allows for use on a DDR3 board if he decides to go DDR3 instead of DDR2.

If you want to go with DDR3 and AM3 Phenom II processors, You could go with this board: MSI 790FX-GD70 ( Newegg.com - MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards ).

Need a RAM spec'ing expert
This is an Acer Aspire 5003WMLi laptop I've installed Win7 on to see if the display would render correctly in which case we'd go ahead and upgrade the RAM.
