Broken Graphics Card
Hey guys, just got a quick question
Is a broken graphics card enough to make a computer turn itself off right after being turned on with no other hardware interaction?

The nature of the malfunction was the fan melting the heatsink is warped and broken at the point where it secures onto the card. It's a GeForce 6600 by the way
The thermal sensors will likely trigger a shut down.
If you didn't have any artifacting before you discovered the error you might be lucky.
I doubt it's still working, the computer shuts off within seconds of pressing the on button. Surely you could get 20-30 seconds or something without a fan?
It all depends on the GPU's thermal protection, I've had cards survive under dust and with blown fans for lengthy periods... so good luck!
Yeah I think I'll just replace the card and see if the computer starts up after that. I can get another for $50
Heck I would love to see the underside of that card, bet it aint a pretty red around the gpu
