RAM Usuage

I have 4GB of RAM installed. 4x1gb Crucial Ballistix RAM on Windows 7 Home Edition and an MSI p7n 780i SLi board. When I go into Start->Ctrl. Panel->System-> it's saying "Installed Memory 4.00 GB(3.00 GB usable.) On my old intel board with Windows XP using the same RAM, it said 3.25GB installed. Where's the other 1GB of RAM?

32 or 64bit Win7?

If 32bit your missing 1GB due to the GPU, and other system overhead. So in order to address them, youll loose some system memory because there's no room.

32bit OS have a 4gb address space limit.

A 64bit OS will resolve this limit.
