    Solid State and Mechanical HDs whats the diff?


    As the title indicates I have this question Solid State and Mechanical HDs whats the diff?THX

    Solid state: no moving parts, much much much faster, lower capacity, very expensive per GB, no sound; similar to RAM.

    Mechanical: Spinning discs, cheap, generate heat and noise; available in larger capacities.

    A SSD uses flash memory, like a thumb drive and SD card.

    A hard disk uses magnetic platers, like a floppy disk.

    Read this article on SSDs and this article on hard disks for more info.

    SSDs are way faster than HDDs, more reliable, use less energy, and run cooler. They also cost way more.
