How do I enable my floppy drive?

Ever since I installed Windows 7, I've noticed that my floppy drive is not available when I open the Computer folder. Not even after disabling 'Hide empty drives in the Computer folder' in the folder options. How am I supposed to access my floppy drive in Windows 7? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if your floppy is properly connected to the motherboard, you might need to enable it in the bios. If it is not recognized in the bios, you need to check your connections, and make sure you are connecting pin number to 1 to the number 1 slot of the cable. The number 1 slot or pin can be recognized by a little arrow on the board and on the cable. You should also look at your board diagram in your booklet. is this a newly built computer, or did you upgrade from another OS that the floppy worked with before?

Hello Flava0ne,

You may need to boot into your BIOS (setup) screen to enable the Floppy (A: drive) option in the CMOS section of the BIOS.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Check in your Bios and make sure it still shows there would be a first step. == Just from a personal viewpoint, I am going to remove mine so I can use the bay for something else. I can't remember the last time I used it. Everything is on a CD these days.

I simply updated to Windows 7 from Vista, and my floppy was showing before on Vista. I'll check my BIOS right now and post back.

Flava0ne,

Double check your BIOS to make sure that it's enabled in it. Have you installed the latest Windows 7 version of your motherboard's chipset driver?

What is this "floppy" you speak of?

But seriously; what can you do with one these days? Flash drives are almost free and immeasurably better. Did you just upgrade from 3.1 or what?
